Considering the poor pre release scuttlebutt, Captain America: Brave New World exceeded my expectations, delivering a solid addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it doesn’t reach the heights of the franchise’s top-tier films, it comfortably sits in the middle of the pack, offering an engaging storyline and commendable performances.
Anthony Mackie shines as Sam Wilson / Captain America, embracing the mantle with a blend of determination and vulnerability. Harrison Ford brings gravitas to the role of President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, portraying a complex leader with a tumultuous past. The supporting cast enhances the narrative, with Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / Falcon, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker / Sidewinder, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Carl Lumbly reprising his role as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson returning as Samuel Sterns / The Leader.
Directed by Julius Onah, the film explores themes of legacy, political intrigue, and personal growth. While it may not redefine the superhero genre, Brave New World offers a compelling story that balances action and character development, making it a worthwhile watch for Marvel enthusiasts. Oh. And there’s a Red Hulk. When do we get a blue one? Just sayin’.
