Top Ten Must Read Fantasy Novels

Everybody loves a good Top Ten list. I’m no different. I decided to give ChatGPT a chance to weigh in and asked for the top ten must read fantasy novels. I have to admit, the AI did a pretty good job. I’ve read nearly all of them (I watched the Harry Potter novels rather than read the books) and the only series I’d add would have been Raymond E. Feist’s Riftwar Cycle books.

To those of you visiting, I also highly recommend one of the book series my small press, Hydra Publications, has out, The Rex Draconis series by Richard A. Knaak.

What books would you add to the list?

  1. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien – This epic trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins and his quest to destroy the One Ring.

2. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis – This beloved series takes readers to the magical land of Narnia, where talking animals and mythical creatures abound.

3. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling – This wildly popular series follows the adventures of a young wizard named Harry Potter as he attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and battles the evil Lord Voldemort.

The Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin – This classic series explores the magical archipelago of Earthsea and follows the adventures of the wizard Ged.

The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss – This trilogy follows the adventures of Kvothe, a renowned musician and magician, as he seeks to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Chandrian.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan – This epic series spans fourteen volumes and follows a group of heroes as they battle against the dark lord known as the Dark One.

The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson – This series takes place in a world where magic is controlled by ingesting metals and follows a young girl named Vin as she discovers her own magical abilities.

The Belgariad series by David Eddings – This classic series follows a young farm boy named Garion as he discovers his destiny as a hero and battles against the evil god Torak.

A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin – This epic series follows the power struggles and wars of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and features a large cast of characters.

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King – This series follows the gunslinger Roland as he journeys through a mystical world on a quest to reach the Dark Tower and save reality from destruction.
